Annabel Potterton has been using chalk pastels since 2000. Throughout this time she has used many subjects including her own children, sheep, pigs and hens on the small farm she lives on in Co Meath, Ireland.
Crowds, characters at country fairs and queues of people have also been inspiration for subject matter. Annabel is now focusing on portraits exploring texture using newspaper, pumice and gesso. The layers of ground texture underneath the portraits reveal harsh lines and crevices adding depth to the paintings.
She has a Diploma in Further Education of Fine and Applied Art (Ceramics) from Wandsworth Art College, London (1993-94) and studied drawing, painting and sculpture with Bernie Leahy at Dunboyne College of Education, Co Meath (2006-07).
