WELCOME TO THE PASTEL SOCIETY OF IRELAND

The Pastel Society of Ireland was formed in 1988 by a group of dedicated pastel painting artists who felt that there was a need to provide a forum where pastelists could meet to discuss and promote the highly individual art of pastel painting. The Society aims to encourage and promote the art and practice of pastel painting thoughout Ireland by bringing together pastel artists with a wide range of abilities, so that their crafts, skills and artistic abilities may be enjoyed and shared.

The Annual Exhibition of the Society is open to all pastel artists. A panel of selectors consisting of a full member of the Society, plus two independent guest artists decide which paintings will be exhibited each year. These exhibitions have been well supported in the past, and a high standard of pastel painting has been maintained by various techniques, in a wide range of subjects.

The Society supports pastel artists by arranging demonstrations, lectures and outdoor painting sessions, and by supplying art materials that may not readily be available otherwise. From time to time exhibitions are organised in conjunction with local art bodies, and invitations to stage such events would be welcomed by the committee.
